600pt Nids & Wolves

This is essentailly a place holder for a tourney I'm playing in this weekend

It's 600pts each player 2v2 teams. The games are times at 90 minutes which is going to be an issue for us - me as I have a few models and potenitally more to arrive during the game, and the wolf player isn't the fastest. Originally I wanted to play nid terv spam (I can do 3 tervs at 600 points) with green tide orks with the team name "time limits are racialist" - it would just amuse me to have that many models on the table...

anyway I'm now with wolves and decided on a more sensible list that I could do fully painted and didn't have to buy any more models, so the list our team is running is:

Nids

HQ - Prime w/ Lashwhip & Bonesword

Elite - Doom + Pod
Elite - 1x Hive Guard

Troop - 19 termagants
Troop - tervigon - all usual upgrades

Wolves

HQ - Wolf guard

Troop 10 - Grey hunters w/ melta
Troop 9 - Grey hunters w/ melta

Heavy - 5 longfangs w/ multimelta, lascannon, missile launcher - possibly more
w/ razorback w/ heavy bolter

I'm not particualy excited about our lists as there was a lack of planning - I took the hive guard as he didn't have long fangs, then he went out and got some after I'd submitted my list - the prime is kindof pointless an HQ but iddn't have points after putting the hive guard and doom in there.

On the plus side with grey hunters and a terv we possibly have 2 of the best troop options in the game and we're gonna be hard to shift off objectives. There's meant to be some really competitive people coming down so I expect a spanking as this is my first time out, under a very tight time restraint I'm gonna make boo boo's and get punished for it. Anyway I'll put a report of how we did after the weekend is done!

Im surprised about the razorback for the long fangs but I do hav some memory that this is a standard tactic. Would have through a rhino for the grey hunters may have been more useful. Do they have counter attack?

Yeah I'm not really sure what that's there for myself. I know they do it as part of MSU lists but feels a bit out of place here - still, can park it in front of my guys I guess - although I'm of the same mind as you on the rhino. Having 1 unit that didn't have to footslog would have been nice and allow manipulation of the opponents target priority.

Okay so here is the rundown of the games we played:

Game 1 v Necrons & Dark Eldar

Saving grace in this one was there were no flyers the cons were footslogging warriors and immortals with a royal court the DE had a ravager some wyches warriors and a talos.

All in al the lists were fairly even as (at least fro the look of theirs) it looks like both sides just threw some armies together without a great deal of consideration for how they fit together. This one was a bit closer than the scoreline suggested as we took 2 contested objectives on the last turn. Really fun guys to play against though we won this one 14-2 i believe, which left us ranked 2nd after the first game.

Game 2 v Daemons & Necrons

Being ranked 2nd we were up against the guys ranked 1st in the next match who were playing a "how many screamers can I fit in a list" daemon army and cron air.

Screamers are basically reaver jetbikes with razorflails 5 attacks on the charge AP2 5+ invuln T5 2 wounds, eternal warrior, fearless - you can guess how this went...

I spread out my gants as much as I could, spawned to fill holes and tried to cover as much of the board as possible to get the to mishap and leave the flyers with no where to go when they came on. Unfortunately Adam's wolves took a bit of a pasting early days but I managed to contest their objectives and almost puled ours back with the prime and some gants going up against the plaguebearers holding ours. Another day we win this one as the daemons were very close to mishapping and made an inordinate amount of saves! again though this was a really fun game, even though their list was butal we gave them a good game and they were good guys, lots of banter, which is what it's all about for me - lost this one about 10-2

Game 3 IG & IG

This was the worst game and it was a shame to play these guys at the end. IG gunline - mirrored lists purge the alien. There was an inordinate amount of s8 and ap3 in their list and having to foot-slog across the board against an ig gunline that doesn't have to move is just about as boring as 40k gets - a complete lack of any banter and I was ready to pick up my models and go home after turn 1 - we got predictably tabled and this was the worst matchup with the worst mission that we could possibly have faced.

We finished 7th in the end and lost to the guys who finished 1st (daemons & crons) and 2nd (IG) but had fun (in the first 2 at least!) next one is a 4 man team tourney in April - with booze!!

sounds like you did pretty good despite everything! very interested about these guard... might need to ask you about their lists..

fliers in a 2x600pts list game seems alittle unfair in my opinion as you'd have to spend a massive chunk of that on anti air stuff whilst still keeping to the FOC.

the IG list was 2 Leman russes - a whole bunch of heavy weapons teams with missile launchers, some melta vets, it was a very simple list, lots of big ass guns - but with that many guns in that mission we really didn't have a hope. The board was covered in terrain that we had to run through, so slowed us down, but wasn't really big enough to huddle down in for saves - the Leman Russes ignored that cover as well.

We were very much a victim of our early success ranked 2nd after the first match and ranked 4th after the 2nd, oddly if we'd not won the first game by so much we would have drawn different opponents and probably finished higher!
